Change plays an unavoidable role in our personal and professional lives but how change-wise are we as individuals? And how ‘brain friendly’* are we when it comes to managing times of change?
Day to day demands mean we can easily overlook the importance of understanding change and of consciously cultivating practical change management skills.
During this introductory workshop we will explore:
- The nature of change in our personal and professional lives
- The neuroscience of change
- Organisational management of change
- Mindfulness as an inner resource to navigate change
- Some of the common misconceptions about mindfulness
- Next steps for those that would like to learn mindfulness
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is ideal for those interested in exploring their personal relationship to change. We will also touch on organisational approaches to change. It is an opportunity to take time to explore the topic of change and how we might support both ourselves and those around us during times of change.
Whilst there are opportunities to go on to learn mindfulness there is no expectation to do so – curious/sceptics welcome.
Those that would like to begin to practice mindfulness or explore the topic of change within an existing meditation practice may wish to consider attending an 8-week Mindfulness for Personal and Professional Change (MfC) course, offering an opportunity to
- explore our personal and professional relationship to change
- develop inner resources to support us through times of change, and
- cultivate skills supportive of bringing about values-based change in our personal and professional lives.
Format of the Workshop
This workshop will begin promptly at 6.30pm so we recommend arriving 10 minutes early. Please be aware that drinks will not be provided. Please feel free to bring drinks and snacks if you would like to. The workshop will conclude at 9pm. The session will consist of a mixture of presentation, group discussion and practical meditation exercises.
As a Mindfulness Instructor at the Northern Centre for Mindfulness and Compassion Sally Roberts speaks regularly about mindfulness in a variety of settings. A former HR Manager (MCIPD) Sally has taught over 50 mindfulness courses and is passionate about mindfulness in the workplace. Examples of the Centre’s work are shared as contributory authors in Chapman-Clarke’s ‘Mindfulness in the Workplace: An Evidence-based Approach to Improving Wellbeing and Maximizing Performance’.

Please note that no refunds will be offered for our 10 Year Anniversary events, given the discounted rates of £10 per person or less being offered.
If your attendance is being subsidised by your employer we ask that you let us know if you are no longer able to attend so that someone else can be offered the opportunity to do so.
If you decide to cancel your place, you will receive:
- A full refund (minus a £5 administration fee) provided we receive notice of your cancellation a least 14 days’ before the workshop date
- A 50% refund if we receive 13 – 7 days’ notice
- No refund if we receive less than 7 days’ notice
In the case that the workshop is cancelled by The Northern Centre for Mindfulness and Compassion, all workshop fees will be refunded in full.
I am considering training to teach mindfulness, will this course enable me to do this?
For those looking to teach mindfulness we would recommend having a look at the UK Network for Mindfulness Based Teacher Training Organisations which gives guidance on good practice and teacher training organisations within the UK. An 8-week MBSR, MBCT or 10-week MBLC course is generally considered a good starting point (including attendance on a day retreat) and often a pre-requisite to attending teaching training. Given several of our courses are adaptations of the traditional 8 week format, if you are looking to follow a particular training route it is worth checking any stipulated pre-requisites with your training provider.
My organisation are interested in/supportive of mindfulness – do you offer in-house training?
Yes we offer a full range of in-house mindfulness training, including stress reduction, resilience, change management, compassionate care, creativity and leadership development. Introductory workshops are an important first step for those wishing to offer mindfulness training. Please see our workplace webpage or get in touch for further information.
