A 10 Year Anniversary Introductory event offered in partnership with York CVS

‘For someone to develop genuine compassion towards others, first he or she must have a basis upon which to cultivate compassion, and that basis is the ability to connect to one’s own feelings and to care for one’s own welfare… Caring for others requires caring for oneself’

HH Dalai Lama, 2000

Workshop Overview

Sharing a life journey through caring can offer profound opportunities for personal growth and transformation, but is often fraught with difficulties as we are confronted by our own fears and struggles. This workshop will introduce mindfulness, meditation and compassionate reflection as skills that can be cultivated to inform and nurture our own self-care and capacity for being present with another. Through a contemplative approach to caring within an atmosphere of acceptance, non-judgment and compassionate presence, the carer, cared for and families can reconnect with their own sources of strength, meaning and hope bringing healing and a greater sense of peace for all.

During this introductory workshop we will explore

  • Compassion; what is it and what do we think of? Dispelling some myths around compassion
  • The neuroscience and biology of compassion
  • Cultivating compassion for self and others
  • Compassion research and benefits
  • When compassion starts to hurt: exhaustion and burnout
  • A compassionate approach to caring

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is ideal for those interested in exploring and cultivating compassion in caring for others and for self whether in a professional therapeutic relationship, education or family caring situation including:

I am considering training to teach mindfulness, will this course enable me to do this?

For those looking to teach mindfulness we would recommend having a look at the UK Network for Mindfulness Based Teacher Training Organisations which gives guidance on good practice and teacher training organisations within the UK. An 8-week MBSR, MBCT or 10-week MBLC course is generally considered a good starting point and often a pre-requisite to attending teaching training. Given several of our courses are adaptations of the traditional 8 week format, if you are looking to follow a particular training route it is worth checking any stipulated pre-requisites with your training provider.

My organisation are interested in/supportive of mindfulness – do you offer in-house training?

Yes we offer a full range of in-house mindfulness training, including stress reduction, resilience, change management, compassionate care, creativity and leadership development. Introductory workshops are an important first step for those wishing to offer mindfulness training. Please see our workplace webpage or get in touch for further information. We have also agreed employee discounts with a number of local organisations. If you are unsure as to whether or not your organisation has this offer in place please check with your HR/Staff Benefits/Management team.
